Hedwig Maths Term 1

Last term I had maths with Felicity we worked on Fractions & Convert to improper fractions.

Here are some examples of converting to improper fractions
3 1/10 = 31/10
7 2/3 = 23/3
1 23/24 = 47/24
12 2/5 = 62/5
Converting to mixed fractions
11/3 = 3 2/3
12/4 = 3 0/4
19/3 = 6 1/3
24/4 = 6 0/4

Energy Explanation

This is my energy explanation.

What energy is ….

Energy is everywhere. Energy is a natural resource that has lots and lots of forms and all different reactions when mixed with other Chemicals.  All the types of energy like kinetic , potential and electrical energy are all a big part of what energy is.

There are many different forms of energy such as heat, light , motion, electrical, chemical, nuclear and  gravitational energy. Some types of energy are thermal, radiant, kinetic & potential energy. All of these are used for many different things. There are different types of energy that can be renewable and nonrenewable energy. When people use electricity in their homes, the electrical power was probably generated from burning coal, natural gas, nuclear reaction or a hydroelectric plant on a river. The gasoline people use to fuel their cars is made from crude oil (nonrenewable energy) and may contain a biofuel (renewable energy) like ethanol, which is made from processed corn.

Renewable Energy is an energy that can be replenished such as Solar energy from the sun, Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth & wind energy. Some other examples are biomass from plants and hydropower from flowing water. There are five main renewable energy sources and they all can be replenished. Nonrenewable is an energy that can not be replenished. Renewable energy is also called clean energy or green power because it doesn't pollute the air or the water. You will notice that water, wind, sun and biomass (vegetation) are all available naturally and were not formed. The others do not exist by themselves, they were formed. Renewable energy resources are always available to be tapped, and will not run out.

Nonrenewable Energy is a type of energy that cannot be replenished. Some examples of nonrenewable energy are, Petroleum products, hydrocarbon gas liquids, natural gas, coal and nuclear energy. Unrefined oil, natural gas, and coal are all called the fossil fuels because they were formed over millions of years from the heat of the earth's core and pressure from rock and soil on the remains  of dead plants and creatures like microscopic diatoms / algae. Most of the petroleum products consumed in the United States are made from crude oil, but petroleum liquids can also be made from natural gas and coal.

In conclusion energy is a natural resource that comes in lots of different forms and are used for many different things. Like nonrenewable / renewable energy. Energy is an important part of our lives, without energy we wouldn't have flowing water, cars and we wouldn’t be able to cook food.  Energy is very important and it has a lot of great features.

Elephant Toothpaste

Yesterday for immersion we tested out elephant toothpaste to see the reaction it makes.
I think the science behind what happened is the yeast reacting to the warm water and the hydrogen peroxide, which made it have a chemical reaction. I think that the elephant toothpaste had a chemical reaction because all of the substances have changed and cannot go back to their original state.
Kothar and Nicole did their test first ( the proper way ), my group added 3x more yeast than the original test. Compared to Nicole and Kothars I think my one had a lot more foam but it was a lot slower for the yeast to actually react to the hydrogen peroxide and warm water.

Friday science projects

For our Friday science session with Nicole, we could choose out of ;
creating a scale model of our solar system, designing a holiday on one of our solar system's planets ( not earth ) & if there was no sun or moon movie or play.

I chose to do the hotel on Venus
Here is their suits, hotel and map.

Resilience

This week I think I have been resilient because whenever something happened that I didn't agree with or didn't want to happen I didn't have a hissy fit I just dealt with it and got back up and continued doing what I should be doing.

Perseverance

This week I thought I showed perseverance, because I asked Felicity, what my immersion follow up was and I have done 9 blog posts so far, this is my 10th.
I have been working alone in the teacher space to keep focused a lot on my work.
I have also done a prove it maths goal ( 9 x tables ) on my blog without being asked.

School Leader

Today the announced the school leaders ( LJ, Lelani, Julia, Awatea, Maya C, Harrison, Grace R, Martina )
